Long Term Substitute - 7th Grade Science

During my time as a student teacher I met a 7th grade science teacher who was going to have her baby right after Christmas break. I was lucky enough to be offered this position.

So, only a few days after I graduated, I was hired on to the Des Moines Public schools as a substitute teacher. On January 2nd, when the students came back from their Christmas vacation, they came back to me.

They were in the middle of a chemistry unit. We had three weeks to finish the unit, and test. I found it rather difficult to come in on the end of a unit. However, the fact that the majority of students had forgotten most of what they learned over the break, made it a little bit more of a level playing field.

After completing that unit, we moved on to a new unit. I was excited because I was going to start and end the unit. It was a unit on Earth Science. I would get to pretest them, assess them along the way, and get to see the end result at the end of the unit. More details will follow regarding this 7 week adventure in "The Restless Earth"....
