During my experience as a student teacher, I had a pretty good idea that the lower grades were not my strong suit. I have since had a few opportunities to confirm this. I do not feel that I am teaching them as well as they can be taught, and I leave the day exhausted and drained of all emotions.
There was a time when I thought that I would not be able to do elementary at all. But there have been many 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that have proven that wrong. I enjoy them very much, but the line has been drawn, no lower that 2nd.
And on the other side of things, I also do not enjoy high school. I was only in one for one day and I hated it just as much as when I went to high school.
I suppose that it is good that we are all better at teaching different subjects and different grade levels. I am happy that I now know exactly where I excel at. I think this helps me be a more effective teacher. And it saves my nerves a bit too! :)
